Beginnings of smart work space in Blackrock

I come from a legal background working in a superb office. I left to pursue other interests and started working on a startup online business with 2 others, one living in Wexford and the other in Dublin.  The three of us worked from home.

Working from home can mean isolation and a lack of work discipline (in my case!)  You know the way it goes: – you’re at home so domestic ‘stuff’ trickles into the brain and breaks precious moments of concentration.

We took turns meeting in Dublin or Wexford and, when in Wexford, in the lobby of a hotel outside Gorey. With people running around and the general bustle of a hotel lobby it was often difficult to find a smart work space to sit and, to get the password for the internet and get going and, when we did, to concentrate and have a productive meeting. We ordered coffee to feel ‘entitled’ to be there. Not ideal.

Opening of HeadOffice Blackrock

Working in these conditions got me thinking about how good it would be to shut the home hall door and go out to work, to be part of a working community, to have people to bounce ideas off and to have meeting rooms when we needed them.

And so the research, surveys and questions started and the search for a premises.

I have lived in Blackrock for years and I love the village –that is why I picked a smart work space in Blackrock and called the business HeadOffice.

It’s a few weeks since HeadOffice Blackrock officially launched.  It’s been a long road but things like this do generally take longer than planned and looking at the finished offices it has been worth it.

  • BLACKROCK BREAKFAST BRIEFINGS BY HEADOFFICE - (#BBB)

The why and what of #BBB.

Because of  my legal background I am regularly asked questions about legal issues that arise and I refer people to practitioners who are specialists in the area.

The aim of #BBB is to provide an interesting informative platform for the business community on topics that concern business owners both professionally and personally.  #BBB 1 is in HeadOffice (opposite the old Post Office on the main street in Blackrock) on Wednesday 22nd February.

When #BBB was first mooted we asked a number of people  what topics they would like covered in relation to their businesses/life and the one that shone out initially was around #PracticalLove as in all things to do with wills.

HeadOffice is holding its first #BBB on Wednesday 22nd February.  We are  delighted to have two experts come and talk on the subject and answer questions:

Paula Fallon, a solicitor specialising in all aspects of Wills, Probate and Trusts for over 20 years and

Doreen Shivnen, a barrister in practice since 1992 whose areas of expertise include contentious probate cases.

Topics covered will include :

  • Basic rules for making your will
  • Why it is essential to review/update your will
  • Pitfalls of DIY wills
  • Drafting wills for second families/blended families
  • How to make sure that the person you want to get your property does
  • Why you must be careful who you get to witness your will
  • Do children have a right to their parents property when the parents die?
